Article Three - Episode two

 EPISODE TWO

Mayowa grew up to be a very stubborn boy. Sometimes, he would refuse to go to the farm to get food for himself and his grandmother. He would prefer to play with his mates in the village. They would walk up and down the streets of the village, doing whatever they wish. His grandmother would have to manage to go to farm with the little strength she had in order to get some food items and fetch firewood to be used to cook them. This she did whenever Mayowa refused to go to the farm.

One day, white missionaries came to Eleegun village with the gospel and in the process of time, many souls were won for Christ. The Spirit led them to also take the gospel to Aba-eegun village. It was not too easy over there, but, eventually, souls were being won for Christ gradually. The missionaries founded a school in the village and much efforts were made to convince the villagers to enroll their wards in the school. Mayowa was enrolled in the school after his grandmother accepted Jesus Christ. He was placed in the beginner's class together with all who enrolled in the school because none of them had ever been to school before. Well, he was able to catch up fast because he was exceptionally brilliant. He paid attention to his education but he never paid attention to morals. His heart was as that of a stone. The missionaries took extra time to pray for him. Whenever he did any wrong thing and he was corrected, he would determine to do much more next time. It was as if Satan was living in him. That was how he continued till he graduated from the primary school. He won a scholarship to study in a prestigious secondary school in Lagos.

The night before the day he would travel, his grandmother fell ill and slept because it was time for her to leave the planet Earth. Mayowa cried all through the night till daybreak. He concluded that there was no God. If, there was, how could he watch his grandmother that had accepted Jesus Christ to die without reaping the fruits of her labour over him? He could have granted her more long life since Methuselah also lived long in the Bible stories he had listened to from the missionaries. By 5am, the truck that would take him to Lagos was already outside his grandmother's house. He had to call on the neighbours to please help him to give his grandmother a befitting burial because he must not miss the truck else, he would forfeit his career. He cried as he went along with the other villagers travelling to Lagos. He couldn't control himself. He wept all through the journey. The villagers called on the missionaries and they gave her a befitting burial. The pastor that preached said that her life was a testimony of grace. She accepted Jesus Christ before she slept. He said that he and other missionaries, is so sure she's with the Lord, resting in the bosom of Abraham.
